2020 Mazda CX-30 vs. 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer

New for the 2020 model year, the Mazda CX-30 is shaking up the compact SUV segment with a stunning design, a performance edge and signature driving dynamics. The IIHS selected the CX-30 as a 2020 Top Safety Pick, recognizing the many safety features built into a small package.

With the influx of new compact SUVs entering the market, it’s important that we compare them to the CX-30 to continue to prove its value and capabilities. Here, we compare to the 2021 Chevy Trailblazer.

The 2020 Mazda CX-30 features segment-leading power

Two CX-30 engine selections feature a mix of power and efficiency, no matter what grade level you choose. The entry GX trim includes a 2.0L four-cylinder that generates 155 horsepower and 150 lb-ft of torque, offering sporty performance for a base compact engine. It matches with a six-speed automatic transmission that features manual mode and a drive selection switch.

The second CX-30 engine is a 2.5L four-cylinder that increases horsepower to 186 and torque to 186 lb-ft. Found in the GS and GT grade levels, it boosts performance and acceleration to a level that is the talk of the segment. This engine also pairs with the six-speed automatic, and the GT model receives paddle shifters for a more exhilarating journey.

The Trailblazer offers two engine options. FWD trims include a turbocharged three-cylinder that produces 137 horsepower and 166 lb-ft of torque, falling short in horsepower compared to the CX-30. Even with slightly more torque than the CX-30’s entry engine, the Trailblazer’s CVT transmission doesn’t compare to the personalized experience of the CX-30’s manual mode.

The most powerful Trailblazer engine is a 1.3L three-cylinder that peaks at 155 horsepower. It lags far behind with 31 fewer horsepower than the CX-30’s 2.5L.

The 2020 Mazda CX-30 increases efficiency and value

The Trailblazer earns a fuel consumption rating as low as 8.9 L/100 km in the city and 7.8 L/100 km on the highway, but the CX-30 beats it with 8.9/7.1 L/100 km in its most efficient configuration.

The CX-30 also presents amenities you won’t find in the Trailblazer, including: Bose premium sound system with 12 speakers, multi-zone air conditioning, mirror memory, rain-sensing wipers, integrated turn signal mirrors, the Driver Attention Alert and more.
