2022 Mazda CX-30 vs 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross : Choose Performance and Practicality

If you need to purchase a compact utility vehicle but still crave performance driving, look no further than the 2022 Mazda CX-30. It is the sportiest, most capable member of its class. Moreover, it provides plenty of cargo space and technologies to help you on the road, whatever your destination may be.

The 2022 Mazda CX-30 is at the heart of a very competitive segment. Here, we compare it with the 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross.

The 2022 Mazda CX-30 is at the top of the performance game

The 2022 Mazda CX-30 provides plenty of choice in terms of powertrains. The base engine is a very efficient four-cylinder 2.0-litre unit that develops 155 hp and 150 lb-ft of torque. The GS and GT models use an even more powerful 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine to deploy 186 hp and 186 lb-ft of torque.

Looking for ultimate performance and torque in a subcompact SUV? Try the available four-cylinder 2.5-litre turbocharged engine with an output of up to 250 hp along with 320 lb-ft of torque. You certainly won’t be disappointed.

All three engines come with a sporty six-speed automatic transmission and are mated with Mazda’s state-of-the-art i-Activ AWD system, a finely tuned equipment that is built to conquer Canada’s worst winters.

The Toyota Corolla Cross just landed in the segment, but it clearly doesn’t make a statement in terms of performance. All models come with a four-cylinder 2.0-litre engine with an output of 169 hp and 151 lb-ft of torque. Although these numbers are close to the CX-30’s base engine, they simply cannot compete with Mazda’s variety of engines.

The Toyota Corolla Cross uses a continuously variable transmission (CVT), a component that clearly handicaps driving dynamics when compared to the CX-30’s six-speed.

Advanced technologies and enhanced styling in the 2022 Mazda CX-30

All 2022 CX-30 models feature G-Vectoring Control Plus for improved cornering performance. The Corolla Cross doesn’t have this technology.

Also, the GT trim now gets a new Advanced Visibility Package, which includes a 360-degree View Monitor, front parking sensors and Traffic Jam Assist.

Once you step inside the CX-30, you will notice that Mazda’s designers and engineers used everything in their power to create an upscale environment made to provide a superior driving experience. The Toyota Corolla Cross, on the other hand, uses basic interior textures, along with hard plastics and run-of-the-mill materials.
