2024 Mazda CX-90 Secures 2023 IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+ Rating
September 26 2023,
The 2024 Mazda CX-90 Mild Hybrid Inline 6 Turbo (MHEV) and CX-90 Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) have been honored with the distinguished 2023 TOP SAFETY PICK+ award by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). This accolade stands as a significant achievement, especially given the fact that the IIHS enhanced their award requisites in 2023.
The 2024 Mazda CX-90 stands as a testament to Mazda's continuous desire to innovate. Representing the latest in the brand's lineup, the CX-90 seamlessly blends performance with luxury, offering sophisticated electrified powertrains. With state-of-the-art safety features and Mazda's signature design elements, the CX-90 positions itself as a serious contender among midsize three-row SUVs in Canada.
David Harkey, IIHS President, pointed out that the commendable performance of Mazda's new SUVs aligned with Mazda’s emphasis on safety. Additionally, David Klan, the President and CEO of Mazda Canada Inc., stressed the brand's continual pursuit of safety enhancements. He appreciated IIHS's consistent efforts in pushing the standards higher for safer vehicles and roads.
For a vehicle to be eligible for the 2023 TOP SAFETY PICK+, it needs to achieve high ratings in various safety tests. These tests include the driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, original moderate overlap front, and updated side tests. Additionally, the vehicle should be fitted with either acceptable or good standard headlights across all trims. Another essential criterion is the availability of a front crash prevention system that gets advanced or superior ratings in both daytime and nighttime vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluations.
It's worth noting that the Mazda3, Mazda3 Sport, and CX-30, when outfitted with the optional front crash prevention technology, are recipients of the 2023 IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK award. Moreover, the CX-5 and CX-50 achieved the same award with their standard equipment.
The IIHS serves as an independent, non-governmental organization focused on safety testing. It operates with funding from the insurance sector.
