Fully electric Mazda MX-30 EV will go on sale in Ontario next year

The new Mazda MX-30 EV, which was previously only available in British Columbia and Quebec, will now go on sale in Ontario in 2023. The impressive new Mazda MX-30 promises to surpass your expectations with its quick-charging capability and distinctive design, but more importantly with its behaviour and driving characteristics. The Mazda MX-30 might be an EV, but it is also a fun and dynamic small crossover that delivers exceptional handling, surprising versatility, and a beautiful and luxurious interior.

The range you need for your daily commute

Mazda recognizes that the majority of electric vehicle owners will not regularly travel over 100 kilometres. Even though Mazda acknowledges the significance of electric vehicle range, the company places a higher premium on the speed with which a given EV can be charged. Just like you don't give much thought to your gas-powered vehicle's range because you know you can always fill up the tank, the same holds true for your electric vehicle's range if it charges quickly. In the end, the MX-30 presents the same basic concept. With its smaller battery, the MX-30 only takes half the time to charge as a regular EV.

The Mazda MX-30 has a range of 160 km, far enough for most people's daily commutes. However, the MX-30's 35.5 kWh battery only needs a little over three hours to fully recharge when connected to a level II charger. The battery can be recharged on a level III charger in under an hour. That will get you back on the road in no time. Despite having slightly less range than conventional electric vehicles, the MX-30 isn't limited by this fact thanks to its ability to be charged at nearly twice the rate.

In other words, if you have to drive 600 or 700 kilometres, the MX-30 will take the same time as an EV that has 350 kilometres of range, but that also needs 9 hours to charge on a level II charger or 2 hours on a level 3 charger. With a charging time of just 36 minutes on a quick charger, the MX-30 doesn't make you wait before the battery is good to go.

Mazda's electrified strategy for 2023

Mazda has also announced that a few additional models will arrive on the market in 2023. These include the new Mazda CX-70 and CX-90 plug-in hybrids, the new CX-50 hybrid, and new mild hybrid powertrains.
