Mazda planning five new sport utility vehicles, PHEV models, and a new straight-six engine
October 08 2021,
Mazda made a major announcement this week, promising five new SUVs for global markets with three of those models coming to North America in the next 14 months. It will start with the all-new Mazda CX-50 which we will see next month and that will go into production in January.
That means that the first Mazda CX-50 models should be on Canadian roads as early as this spring! The CX-50 will be similar to the CX-5, although it will actually be based on the Mazda CX-30. It will feature enhanced all-wheel drive capabilities, improved off-road capability, and it will be perfect for young families or active buyers seeking adventure.
Once the CX-50 has arrived, Mazda will turn to its midsize SUVs, giving us the all-new three-row Mazda CX-90 and its two-row equivalent, the Mazda CX-70. The big news here is assuredly the new turbocharged straight-six engine which will be offered in both models, providing plenty of power and exceptional efficiency.
The Mazda CX-70 and CX-90 will both be offered with a new plug-in hybrid version as well. This engine should provide plenty of all-electric range, and more horsepower and torque than traditional combustion engines.
These are certainly exciting times at Mazda. We will keep you posted on new developments, and bring you all the details on the new Mazda CX-50 next month!
