2021 Mazda CX-5 vs. 2021 Subaru Forester: Go More Places in Style

The CX-5 continues to impress with its luxurious drive, sophisticated styling, exciting power, and great tech. Owners rave about many luxurious amenities without the luxury price, and it's priced to compete in the non-premium compact SUV segment. No matter your lifestyle, whether it's downtown or at a country hideaway, the CX-5 is at home anywhere.

To help illustrate how the CX-5 matches up in its segment, we compare it to the 2021 Subaru Forester.

The 2021 Mazda CX-5 wins style points

The CX-5 and Forester are compact crossovers, but their similarities end there. When placed side-by-side, the CX-5 stands out as a work of art. Clean lines, beautiful contours, and choice colours overshadow the rougher, more budget-looking Forester. Plus, the CX-5 is comparable in price.

Also, the CX-5 features better materials and textures inside, creating a much more refined experience.

The 2021 Mazda CX-5 has better powertrain capability and a high-value warranty

The CX-5 features two powertrains that offer immediate and extended capabilities. Four grade levels include a 2.5-litre four-cylinder that produces 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque. The Signature and 100 (available on the GT as an option) feature a turbocharged 2.5-litre that creates up to 250 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque.

The Forester offers a single powertrain, also a 2.5-litre four-cylinder. It peaks at 182 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque, slightly below what the comparable engine in the CX-5 outputs.

Another major difference between both vehicles is in the drivetrain. The Forester's transmission is a continuously variable design that limits driver input. The CX-5 features a six-speed automatic transmission that also includes manual shift mode and a Drive Selection switch on all models, and turbo models also receive paddle shifters. So, the CX-5 enables you to have a little more fun with acceleration.

The CX-5 also features better handling and driving dynamics thanks to the available i-Activ AWD system and standard G-Vectoring Control Plus system.

Every Mazda is meant to be driven, and this program eliminates mileage limits on each warranty category. Each new CX-5 features a no-mileage cap 3-year New Vehicle, 3-year Roadside Assistance, 5-year Powertrain and other coverage. Subaru places mileage limits on their warranties.
