2021 Mazda3 Turbo vs. 2020 Volkswagen Jetta

With the amazing success of the Mazda3 in Canada, many thought it would be difficult or impossible to improve on the vehicle without ruining it. However, the best ideas don’t come from designers--they come from owners. The 2021 Mazda3 Turbo was born from owners requesting a true turbo version. The new lineup features three models: Mazda3 GT, Mazda3 Sport GT, and the 100th Anniversary Edition.

The award-winning Mazda3 on steroids has the competition nervous. Here, we compare it to the Volkswagen Jetta.

The Mazda3 Turbo has a lot more torque than the Jetta

Loaded with a 2.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, the Turbo generates 250 horsepower and a far-reaching 320 lb-ft of torque on premium unleaded. If you prefer regular unleaded, you will still crank out nearly 230 horsepower and a solid 310 lb-ft of torque. Special calibrations within the engine deliver a dynamic driving experience that compact sports sedan drivers crave. The engine is available with the 2021 Mazda3, Mazda Sport GT and Mazda3 100th Anniversary Edition.

The Jetta offers two engines, but the most powerful one is limited to a single trim. A 1.4L turbocharged four-cylinder provides just 147 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque to most trim levels. The GLI model has a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder that increases horsepower to 228 horsepower, but still falls behind in torque at 258 lb-ft. This engine is only available in the highest grade level.

The Mazda3 Turbo includes the i-Active AWD system that enhances performance and helps you through changing road conditions. However, the Jetta’s FWD-only drivetrain limits what you can do on the open road.

The 2021 Mazda3 Turbo is loaded with technology

The Mazda3 Turbo features the best in terms of technology and amenities. For example, Mazda3 GT Turbo models get a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel with paddle shifters, aluminum speaker grilles, leather seat upholstery, heated front seats and a leather-wrapped shift knob as standard equipment.

The Mazda3 Turbo gets many other premium interior features that are either unavailable or optional on the Jetta, these include the 10-way power-adjustable driver's seat with memory function, exterior mirrors linked with memory seat function and SiriusXM Traffic Plus and Travel Link services with a free 5-year trial subscription.

Mazda’s i-Activesense technology suite is also more advanced than the Jetta’s safety systems. It features technologies like Smart Brake Support, Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Warning with Lane-Keep Assist and much more.

The 2021 Mazda3 Turbo will be available soon. In the meantime, you can shop for your car online with us. Our representatives are waiting for your call and can answer all your questions.
