Three Ways SKYACTIV Technology Improves Your Mazda Vehicle
The goal is to make major components function more efficiently and to reduce weight as well, which means that in the end, you get a vehicle that performs better while also being more fuel-efficient.

By now you have probably heard about Mazda’s SKYACTIV technology, a new system developed by Mazda that is now available on almost every new Mazda vehicle offered at Guelph City Mazda. What you may not know, however, is what the system is intended to do, and how it improves your Mazda vehicle.

For starters, we should point out that SKYACTIV is not one technology or one system, but rather a wide range of improvements made to various components of your Mazda vehicle, most of these components being mechanical, like the transmission and the engine. That said, SKYACTIV can also be found in the chassis and body of certain Mazda vehicles.

In other words, SKYACTIV is more akin to a design and development philosophy than anything else. The goal is to make major components function more efficiently and to reduce weight as well, which means that in the end, you get a vehicle that performs better while also being more fuel-efficient.

Preserving performance while reducing fuel consumption is what SKYACTIV has been designed to do, and it has been designed to do so without the need for an electric engine or a hybrid setup. Let’s look at three advantages of SKYACTIV.

A More Fuel-Efficient Engine

SKYACTIV-G engines have higher compression ratios than what you would normally expect to find in vehicles offered in the segments where Mazda offers its models. A higher compression ratio means that you get better performance out of every drop of fuel, and you, therefore, need less fuel to achieve a desired level of performance. It’s really that simple. Moreover, SKYACTIV technology serves to facilitate airflow, which also leads to improved fuel consumption.

Improved Performance

SKYACTIV engines have been fine-tuned and optimized so that every component performs more efficiently. As mentioned previously, you get a higher compression ratio that leads to greater thermal efficiency, improved airflow, and as you will learn in the next section, you also get transmissions that perform at a much higher level. SKYACTIV chassis and body components have also been tuned and improved to ensure that they are lighter and more rigid. This all leads to much better performance and a feeling that you are driving a vehicle with sharp handling and that is engineered to give its owners the best possible performance.

The Best of Both Worlds When it Comes to Transmissions

Lastly, SKYACTIV automatic transmissions have been designed to provide the very best of both CVT transmissions, and dual-clutch transmissions. That means that they react swiftly to gear changes like a dual-clutch setup, but they are also capable of reducing fuel consumption like a CVT gearbox.

With SKYACTIV technology, you get a fuel consumption rating that isn’t far off what you would find with a hybrid vehicle, but without having to sacrifice performance. Come check out our vast inventory of SKYACTIV-powered new Mazda vehicles today at Guelph City Mazda!
